This one arrived a little late for Christmas – but remember, an album is not JUST for Christmas!

Chris Haycock and Jason Borthwick have released their final Deepdale Podcast episode for 2024, with their annual roundup of favourite albums released in the year, their 12 Albums for Christmas.  The selection is inspired by the music programme at Deepdale Camping & Rooms, the playlists they listen to, and the artists they admire.

2024 has seen a particularly superb list, with hugely talented artists including India Electric Co, George Boomsma, Brown Horse, The Shackleton Trio, Annie Dressner, Katherine Priddy, The Henry Girls, Kathryn Williams & Withered Hand, Ferris & Sylvester, The Decemberists, 5 Hills Out, Hope & Social, and Frankie Archer.  Like the music programme at Deepdale, the albums featured have a heart of folk, with wide & varied influences.

This year all the artists featured were very happy to let Chris and Jason play samples of their albums in the podcast episode, so you can enjoy reviews of the albums and great music when you listen to the episode.

“It’s more important than ever that venues, promoters and artists work together to find new fans for this amazing music, as life for musicians is not exactly lucrative until you hit the big time.  We believe in sharing their love for lesser known artists, as a way to say thank you to those artists for the music they have lovingly crafted.” said Chris Haycock, Deepdale Festival Director.

The Deepdale Podcast started back in 2018.  Jason Borthwick hosts & produces roughly 12 episodes a year, which feature interviews with local attractions, artisans, producers, farm chat, upcoming events, wildlife updates, and of course the annual selection of favourite albums from the year.  Each December Jason invites his friend & business partner, Chris Haycock, to do what he loves the most, get excited about great music!

“I’ve always been interested in presenting on radio, and helping occasionally on BBC Radio Norfolk pre Covid really wetted my appetite.  So I started experimenting with Podcast recording and editing, and without any real plan the Deepdale Podcast was born.” said Jason Borthwick, host & producer of the Deepdale Podcast.  “Then it started to grow as I asked really interesting people to join me on the podcast, and listeners started downloading the episodes.”

The podcast is very North Norfolk Coast centric, focusing on the best this beautiful part of the world has to offer.  There is a significant back catalogue of episodes, featuring some fascinating chats about subjects like the Deep History Coast, brewing, wildlife, smoking fish, local attractions, favourite places, and of course musicians both Norfolk based and further afield, with quite a few international connections.

Jason is always happy to hear from anyone who’d like to join him on the Deepdale Podcast or would like to contribute recordings.  Just head to www.DeepdalePodcast.co.uk for more information.  And you can listen to the whole back catalogue there too.
