This Circus Life was formed by former advertising man Charlie Mear who has been described as a man who had it
all, lost it all, and now doesn’t want it back! He started writing songs in 2019 as a way to make sense of a seven-year period of personal tragedies and often bizarre experiences. Now with life back on track the band has gone from strength to strength and already have a growing following picked up by regularly playing the east coast festival circuit.
They won the 2021 Ely Folk Festival competition and were runners up in both the 2023 and 2024 Cambridge Band competition. Making comparisons with other well known bands is always tricky, but listeners often reference Turin Brakes, Del Amitri, Squeeze, REM and Crowded House. Indeed, one reviewer described their song ‘Falling star’ as the best Crowded House song not written by Neil Finn! But forget comparisons.
